New Flooring Going In — But Still No Electricity | The Concourse Ep 10 of 12

Day 32 and the flooring is finally going down. In Episode 10 of "Rehabbing The Concourse," the vinyl flooring installation is underway and the house is starting to feel finished.

We went with a durable vinyl flooring with built-in padding. It's a floating floor system — the pieces interlock with each other and install fairly quickly. We chose vinyl over laminate specifically for water resistance, which matters a lot in a rental property. Vinyl handles water much better, though if it gets wet and isn't dried for a couple hours, it can bubble up permanently.

The hallway, parts of the kitchen, and high-traffic areas are being done first. We're using a big blade (like a paper cutter) to score and cut pieces, and laying paper protection in the hallway to protect sections that are already installed.

The two upstairs bedrooms are getting carpet instead of vinyl. Carpet helps with noise between floors — important in a multi-level rental — and gives the bedrooms a more comfortable, homey feel. The doors upstairs are being hung high to accommodate the carpet height, which requires precise measurements so the gap isn't too big or too tight.

The biggest frustration: we're still fighting with Edison for power at Day 32. Our neighbor wasn't available most of the day, which forced work to stop completely. After multiple transfers at Edison, we finally got the request into their queue — but they told us it'll be another 5 days before they can schedule an appointment. That would put us at Day 37.

The last bedroom was just painted 30 minutes before filming — you can still smell the fresh paint. Comparing it to what this room looked like in the first episodes is incredible.

In this episode you'll see:

• Vinyl flooring being installed with built-in padding and floating interlock system

• Why vinyl beats laminate for rental properties — water resistance

• The big blade cutting method for scoring and cutting pieces

• Hallway, kitchen, and high-traffic areas being done first

• The decision to use carpet upstairs for noise reduction between floors

• The last bedroom freshly painted — before-and-after comparison is dramatic

• AC system completely done in the attic with condensation line and roof flashing

• Doors hung high to accommodate carpet height with precise measurements

• Still no electricity from Edison at Day 32

• The neighbor's extension cord that kept this project alive
